Ending our circular route through Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos, we finished up in the country we started in for a trip through the North of Thailand and down towards Bangkok to catch our flight to Bali. Kicking off with backpacker favourites Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, we visited the fascinating Black and White temples, ate incredible veggie food and strolled around moats and gardens.
We then headed North to Pai, famous for its chilled out vibes and beautiful countryside and hiked for about seven hours up a river to find a lesser-known waterfall off the tourist trail. Further South, we stopped in Sukhothai and Ayutthaya to see the fascinating temples and ruins from empires-past and spent a few days relaxing in Lampang – a quiet riverside city with incredibly friendly locals, great food and a bustling night market that’s more Thai than touristy.
