We’re in Vietnam! We reached the country just before Christmas and had a few days seeing the sights in Ho Chi Minh City and on a mission to find as many English Christmas foods as possible. We then headed to an Air BnB in Phan Thiet on the coast for the four days around Christmas, where we made mince pies, nut roast, bread and butter pudding and a full Christmas dinner. We surprised ourselves with what we could do with the limited ingredients on offer in Vietnam… We even had a cheese board!
After a Christmas filled with food and phone calls back home, we moved just 20 minutes up the coast to visit the Mui Ne sand dunes – red and white dunes which are so big, it’s like being in a desert! We headed out in an old army jeep to explore these, along with the fishing village of Mui Ne and the Fairy Stream – a kind of mini Grand Canyon where you wade through the warm waters to see some beautiful sights.
We stopped off for a night in Nha Trang, a popular beach resort filled with great food and lots of fun and then hit Hoi An for New Year’s Eve. The beautiful, but very rainy, old city is known for its lanterns and quaint streets. We made New Year’s wishes and set little paper floating lanterns free on the water. The next day we went for a walk in the countryside outside the city.
See all our photos from Vietnam so far below. Next stop, Hue!
