Beijing is one of my favourite cities. Strolling through the Hutongs, the food markets and the vintage hipster streets, taking in historical sites from both ancient and modern times like the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square and, of course, visiting the Great Wall.
I was so excited to show Patrick the sights and we loved every second. It’s such a fascinating city and, for us, it felt a lot less crowded and overwhelming than many places in China can do.
We went for the Mutianyu section of the wall which is much less busy than at Balding but is just as easy to get to. We got a bus from Beijing to a nearby town and then hopped in a taxi. We decided to climb up to the wall – a short but sweaty half an hour hike – and then got the toboggan down once we were done!
