Tulum Travel Blog

After a whirlwind 14-stops-in-28-days trip to the United States, we decided to give ourselves a couple of weeks in the same place and we couldn’t imagine a better place to do that than Tulum, Mexico!

From the crystal clear waters and dreamy white sand of the beaches, to the striking Mayan Ruins, this place has attracted celebrities on their Summer holidays for the last few years. The likes of Heidi Klum, Reese Witherspoon and Cara Delevingne have all packed their bucket and spade and headed to the pricey yoga retreats and luxury hotels by the beaches of Tulum. However, just a 20 minute bike ride away in Tulum town is a backpacker’s paradise.

There are hostels and low-cost accommodation options a plenty in Tulum town and even though you’re on a budget, it doesn’t mean you can’t get your own little slice of paradise. Our hostel works out at about £25 British pounds a night for a private room with AC, its own kitchen (including a fridge, freezer and portable hob), bathroom and safe. What’s more, Tulum Naa only has five bedrooms so it’s nice and quiet and you’ll only ever have to share the tranquil little garden with its hammocks and all-important shade with a few other people. Don’t get us wrong, we love the hustle and bustle of a sociable hostel but having a quiet little piece of paradise is quite the luxury too!

We’ve spent time on the beaches, visiting the Ruins, swimming at the Grand Cenote and watching the Voladores acrobats. Oh, and spotting lizards (including a record-breaking iguana out of our bedroom window)! See our photos below and on the following blog posts…
